Nags Head Before the Bodie Island Lighthouse, locals used to walk the beaches at night with lanterns hanging around the necks of old nags (horses) to prevent ships from running aground.   Nags Head is  home to Jockeys Ridge National Park, one of the nations largest moving sand dunes, with its own private beach that makes for beautiful sunset weddings.
